Associate

The firm seeks an Associate Attorney with experience in civil and criminal litigation and general municipal law. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Municipal code enforcement work, including drafting briefs and appearing in criminal court for misdemeanor prosecution, and also at administrative hearings. 

  • Providing comprehensive legal services to our public agency clients, including land use, environmental, employment, CEQA and Brown Act/Public Records Act/Political Reform Act advice.

Qualifications:

  • Entry level or have 1-2 years of relevant public agency and/or litigation experience.

  • Strong academic background and excellent communication skills required.

  • Must have the ability to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects under deadlines.

  • Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of California.

Compensation will be DOQ. EOE.

Legal Assistant/Paralegal

The firm seeks an experienced full-time Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join its dynamic practice. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in a law office setting, with specific experience in civil litigation.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Preparing pleadings and other documents for mailing, service and filing with court;

  • Managing discovery, including drafting discovery requests and calendaring discovery deadlines; organizing, reviewing and analyzing documents for production; and organizing, summarizing and analyzing medical records;

  • Maintaining the firm’s calendar on assigned files;

  • Pre-trial preparation, including organizing and indexing exhibits; preparing trial binders; and serving as liaison between the firm and third parties such as witnesses, clients, vendors, experts and courtroom personnel;

  • Supporting lead attorney, associate attorneys, and other paralegals, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of relevant civil litigation experience as a paralegal at a law firm;

  • Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of both federal and state court rules and calendaring experience (e-filing experience required);

  • Outstanding reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills;

  • Must be detail-oriented and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills;

  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and to prioritize work effectively while working under the pressure of deadlines;

  • Work independently and also successfully as a team player in a busy but congenial office environment;

  • Possess advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

Paralegal Certificate Required; Notary Public Commission Certificate preferred.
